Anita Perkins Consulting

Anita Perkins Consulting provides writing, research, and policy services for individuals and public and private organisations.

In our mini interview Anita introduced us not only to her work and client/member support, but also shares her private and professional connection to Germany.

Why did you study German and what's your connection to Germany?

I started studying German in high school. To be honest at first I just chose the subject to hang out with my best friend. But it was a decision that changed my life. I first went on exchange at age 17 to a village in Bavaria, and went on to study in Heidelberg, teach at a school in Weimar and several other trips. I obtained a PhD in German from the University of Otago in 2013 (which was turned into a book). My main connection to Germany is to my exchange family. I last visited them in 2019 while I was studying at the Goethe Institute in Munich. It was our 20 year anniversary of knowing each other. Oh, and I've been to Oktoberfest three times.

Can you please describe your job and how you could help our members?

I have my own business as a research consultant - Anita Perkins Consulting. I work with businesses and government agencies by connecting people, carrying out interviews, writing case studies, producing research reports and writing articles. I have particular expertise in international relations, social impact, and environmental management.

As a person who has lived in Germany and New Zealand I understand both languages, cultures and ways of being in the world. I can help German-based GNZCC members who would like answers to cultural strategic research questions about people, business and government in New Zealand.

What are some of your key specialties and what is a common challenge you see across your clients?

I'm really good at listening and asking great questions. I can locate, elicit and take in a lot of information and rearrange it so it makes sense to a target audience. This helps my clients who are a bit stuck to get a clearer picture on complex issues, to gain an independent, fresh perspective on what they are doing now and options for next steps, to know who to partner with, and to influence decision-making by communicating their story in a targeted way.
