Digital Energy Business Trip
During the virtual conference on March 18, 2025, companies headquartered in Germany will have the opportunity to showcase their products and services to a professional audience from the Pacific Islands. This audience will include representatives from business, politics, and associations. On the following days, the German New Zealand Chamber of Commerce will organize individual virtual appointments for each company with local decision-makers and potential business partners. Your preferences will be collected in advance via a company questionnaire and taken into account when selecting meetings.
The registration deadline is January 25, 2025.
The conference for this energy business trip will take place online. Upon request and depending on travel conditions, individual B2B meetings can also be held on-site.
Information about the target market
The Pacific Islands (PIC) combine excellent natural conditions for renewable energy production with strong political will and concrete financial incentives on both micro- and macroeconomic levels. The significant costs of importing fossil fuels consume large portions of foreign currency reserves in many island nations, often accounting for up to 15% of total local GDP (compared to under 2% in New Zealand or Germany). For example, Tonga's expenditure on fossil fuels in 2021 was nearly €19 million (or about 5% of GDP) below the 2012 level, while the share of renewable energy in electricity production grew by more than 10% during the same period.
Additionally, the governments of the Pacific Island nations often emerge as the most vocal advocates for more ambitious climate policies in global negotiations. International support is essential for implementing locally defined goals in all four PICs, as there is a lack of skilled personnel on-site. The electricity, land transport, maritime transport, and tourism sectors are key areas targeted by the goals set under the Paris Agreement in the island nations.
Due to the geography of the islands, there are excellent market opportunities for off-grid systems in various sectors, such as tourism and maritime. The "Made in Germany" brand is recognized as a symbol of high quality, durability, and innovative technology, providing small and medium-sized German enterprises (SMEs) with a unique competitive advantage. By offering tailored technologies, consultancy services, and training, German companies can enhance the energy infrastructure of the islands and contribute to sustainable development and resilience in the region.
