Cultural Programme Manager | Goethe-Institut

The Cultural Programme Coordinator supports the planning and delivery of projects, programmes, and events, ensuring clear communication and high‑quality outcomes. The role requires knowledge of the German and New Zealand arts and culture sector and an interest in connecting the scenes. Key responsibilities include regular programmes and a diverse range of small and medium scale projects, coordinating residency programmes, hosting international guests, and contributing to the organisation’s cultural presence locally. Working in a small team requires collaboration, flexibility, and the ability to shift between tasks as needed.

 

Salary indication: 62-68k pro rata, depending on experience
Term: Permanent Contract, 0.75 FTE
Place and hours of work: Wellington CBD, 30 hours per week, Monday - Friday regularly onsite, work from home possible for max. 40%. Expected presence at events during weekends and evenings, expected availability in the afternoon/evening to liase online with Germany or Southeast Asia. Travel for business within NZ and overseas

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Director to develop and deliver the cultural programme
  • Engage with guests, audiences and partners
  • Liase with artists, external contractors and other programme contributors
  • Handling of all cultural programme related bookings such as travel arrangements, location hire, fees, additional services, print, catering, etc.
  • Provide project related marketing and communications
  • Manage specific project budgets with the Director and in consultation with the Head of Finance and Administration
  • Contribute to reporting
  • Manage and support the interns (3-4 per year)
  • Maintain an understanding of current trends and developments in the arts and culture sector in Germany and New Zealand
  • Build and maintain a network of partners and like-minded organisations in New Zealand and Germany

Programme for Foreign Language Assistants (FLA) at schools in the Federal Republic of Germany

Programme information for the exchange year 2026/27 for applicants from New Zealand

Every school year, up to 800 students from abroad are getting engaged as foreign language assistants (FLA) at schools in Germany. They support the teachers at their host school in teaching foreign languages in their native language and receive a monthly stipend of currently 1,000 euros.


Aims of the programme

  • During the internship abroad, students expand and deepen their German language skills, immerse themselves in the German culture, improve their cultural awareness and gain an insight into the local teaching methods.
     
  • The FLAs help to improve the linguistic and cultural knowledge of the pupils in Germany and enrich the lessons with their native language.
     

The programme offers students with an interest in teaching the opportunity to gain classroom experience in the country of the language they wish to teach in the future.


Who can apply?
Applications are open to students 

  • with English as native language
  • up to the age of 35
  • who have attended a high school in New Zealan
  •  who are studying in New Zealand and have completed at least two years of their studies at the time of taking up the position (preferably with German as a subject)
  • with German language skills that should be at least level A2 (CEFR).


Programme duration
The programme starts on 14 September 2026 and ends on 31 May 2027.
 

Funding
FLAs receive a monthly stipend of 1,000 euros. They are covered by health, accident and liability insurance for the duration of the programme. They are also eligible to apply for housing allowance in Germany.
Foreign language assistants from New Zealand receive a one-off travel allowance when they take up their post, provided that these funds are made available by the Federal Foreign Office for this programme year.


Measles Protection Act
Since 1 March 2020, a Measles Protection Act (Masernschutzgesetz) has been in place in Germany to protect from measles. This implies a German-wide vaccination obligation. Further information on this is provided on the website of the Pädagogischer Austauschdienst (PAD).

  • completed application form
  • curriculum vitae in English
  • letter of motivation in English explaining why the student is applying for a position as FLA and what experience s/he expects to gain during the assistantship
  • current reference from a university lecturer (please use our form)
  • transcript of records from the student’s university

Master of European Union Studies (MEuro) | University of Canterbury

This degree studies the European Union (EU) in the global context, with a special focus on the Asia-Pacific region. Master of European Union Studies (MEuro) participants will analyse the EU’s global role in terms of foreign policy, development, external perceptions, human rights, trade and multiculturalism. MEuro is: 

1. The only programme of its kind in Australasia and is co-funded by the European Commission. 

2. Participants can benefit from the expertise, staff and resources that exist within the National Centre for Research on Europe (NCRE), New Zealand’s only research centre devoted to the study of the European Union.
