This joint venture between Tūaropaki Trust and Obayashi Corporation is a shining example of how innovation, local leadership, and international collaboration can drive sustainable solutions. Powered by geothermal energy, the plant produces green hydrogen – a promising step toward decarbonising heavy transport and industry.
At the GNZCC, we recognise the importance of initiatives that reflect both countries’ shared commitment to a more sustainable future. Through our Energy Dialogue forum in collaboration with adelphi, we foster knowledge exchange in the renewables sector between Germany and New Zealand and are advancing a roadmap for an even more collaborative dialogue between the two countries.
Hydrogen plays a central role in Germany’s energy strategy, and New Zealand’s renewable energy potential positions it as a key player in the global hydrogen landscape. Events like the conference featuring the German consortium H2Wheels, hosted by us last year, or our past presentations on green hydrogen opportunities in the Pacific Islands highlight the growing momentum around green hydrogen technology and its potential to transform mobility and energy systems.
