Connecting the World
Many are surprised when they hear about the size of the network of German chambers. It was established as early as 1894. Over the course of 126 years, it has had plenty of time to develop!
In Germany, the core network of the Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHKs) consists of more than 4 million member companies. It is important to note that in Germany, it is mandatory for businesses to be a member of their local chamber. Membership is based on a percentage of the company's annual revenue.
The IHKs not only organize events, but they are also responsible for the dual education system, which is unique and incredibly successful in Germany.
Outside of Germany, the network consists of the foreign trade chambers (AHKs). This includes 140 offices in 92 different countries, supporting over 50,000 member companies.
The AHK New Zealand is the largest of the European member organizations with just under 300 member companies. These include 130 German subsidiaries and representatives of German products in New Zealand, as well as New Zealand exporters focusing on the German market, along with New Zealand importers and manufacturers who source German products.
