The Employment Relations Amendment Act 2026 has now come into force, introducing several important changes that will impact employers and employees across New Zealand. These include the new independent contractor 'gateway test', a remuneration threshold for raising certain personal grievances, changes to remedies for personal grievances, and the removal of the 30-day rule.

Join Employment Law Partners Alison Maelzer and Jodi Sharman from Hesketh Henry for an insightful breakfast webinar as they unpack the key elements of the new legislation, explain how the changes may play out in practice, and discuss what organisations may need to consider moving forward.

In this webinar, we will cover:

  • The introduction of the specified contractor worker category and what it means for businesses engaging contractors
  • The new remuneration threshold for unjustified dismissal claims
  • New obligations relating to new employees and collective agreements
  • Changes to remedies available for personal grievances and how they may affect employers
  • Practical insights on how organisations can prepare for and respond to these legislative changes

This session will provide practical guidance and the opportunity to better understand how the new employment law framework may affect your organisation.
