Pacific Island nations such as Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, and the Cook Islands are increasingly focusing on renewable energy. This has created a growing demand for practical training and further education for professionals who can install, operate, and maintain solar systems, microgrids, and battery storage solutions.
On 5 May 2026, the German-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce (AHK New Zealand), together with iMOVE and the German–Asian Business Association (OAV), organised the info event “Energy Transition in the Pacific – New Opportunities for Educational Providers” in Bonn. German educational providers had the opportunity to exchange ideas with representatives from Fiji and Tonga, discuss training needs, and explore potential collaboration.
Particularly relevant are practice-oriented and modular learning programs, dual education models, and the qualification of teaching staff. Key training areas include photovoltaics, battery systems, microgrids, energy audits, safety standards, and climate infrastructure. The event demonstrated how German providers can build sustainable partnerships and actively support the energy transition in the region.
In conclusion, the EU presented its strategies for the Pacific energy transition, including the Global Gateway program, which promotes investment and partnerships. Overall, the event highlighted numerous opportunities for German educational providers to transfer knowledge and establish a long-term presence in the region.
