German and New Zealand Water Experts Join Forces to Advance Resilient Infrastructure

  • News

Wellington/Auckland, 21 November 2025 | As extreme weather events, climate pressures, and ageing assets challenge New Zealand’s water systems, a group of German innovators visited New Zealand with a shared purpose: to collaborate, connect, and help shape a more resilient future for Aotearoa’s water infrastructure.

From 17–21 November, the German-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce (GNZCC) hosted a delegation under the umbrella Strengthening Urban Water Resilience with a Focus on Extreme Weather events

The week-long program included the Resilient Waters Conference in Wellington, B2B meetings, executive roundtables, technical discussions, and site visits in both Wellington and Auckland. The event brought together a diverse group of New Zealand water utilities, councils, engineers, and sector leaders with seven German companies specialising in advanced water technologies.

Throughout the conference, speakers and delegates explored new ways to safeguard drinking water, improve wastewater management, and strengthen critical infrastructure. The German delegation shared practical solutions –  from intelligent control systems to precision monitoring technologies –  developed to withstand the very climate challenges New Zealand now faces.

The participating German companies were:
  • Binder Group AG
  • FLUIDTEC Flüssigkeitstechnologie
  • SAMSON Aktiengesellschaft
  • Smart Actuation (3S Antriebe GmbH)
  • TriOS Mess- und Datentechnik GmbH
  • Vulcan by Christiani Wassertechnik GmbH
  • Wilo Group

As the week progressed, conversations deepened into opportunities: potential pilot projects, collaborative research, and technology evaluations tailored to New Zealand conditions. Site visits enabled the delegation to see local challenges first-hand, creating a strong foundation for future cooperation.

This week was a reminder of what can happen when global expertise meets local commitment. New Zealand and Germany share a common goal  – building water systems that are smart, sustainable, and future-proof.

This delegation trip was organised by the German-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce (GNZCC) in collaboration with German partner AHP International and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE).
