On- and Offshore Wind Energy
On 12th November 2024, we bring together German and New Zealand expertise from the onshore and offshore wind energy sector in a virtual conference, followed by B2B meetings for German companies with organizations and companies in New Zealand.
Overview
The On- and Offshore Wind Energy Project is a collaborative initiative with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) as part of its 'Energy Export Initiative'. It is aimed at leveraging German expertise and technologies in renewable energy to enhance New Zealand's wind energy capacity. With New Zealand committed to achieving 90 % renewable electricity by 2025 and transitioning to a carbon-neutral economy by 2050, the project aligns with the country's ambitious energy goals.
Project opportunity
The project aims to address challenges in New Zealand's energy strategy by substantially increasing the installed wind capacity to boost renewable energy production. The country’s wind resources offer the potential to generate electricity 150 times more than its domestic market needs, ultimately providing the chance to export green energy globally. The latest developments in off-shore wind will further offer opportunities for the growth of green hydrogen and e-fuel sectors. Additionally, the expansion of the wind energy sector will draw in energy-intensive industries such as data centres and advanced manufacturing to New Zealand.
The project offers great bilateral opportunities. It provides a platform for German manufacturers to enter a market where there is a significant demand for advanced wind energy solutions, aligning with New Zealand's energy transition objectives. Beyond this, it will allow New Zealand to use its abundant resources to their full potential.
