The New Zealand Government has introduced three new pathways to make it easier to use overseas building products:

  • Building Product Specifications
  • Endorsed Standards
  • Approved Products Certified Overseas

This webinar, hosted by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) in conjunction with the European Union Delegation to New Zealand, will provide an overview of the new pathways introduced under recent amendments to the Building Act 2004 and will explain the provisions for recognising Approved Products Certified Overseas, which enables the recognition of overseas certified building products and methods by MBIE.

Products that are recognised as an Approved Product Certified Overseas by MBIE will be deemed to comply with the Building Code and must be accepted for use by building consent authorities (BCAs), when they both are:

  • used as intended including any conditions or limitations of recognition
  • supported by certain required technical information.

The session will also introduce a new Expression of Interest (EOI) and self‑assessment process to help product suppliers and manufacturers access the overseas‑certified products and certification scheme. The EOI can be used to support manufacturers, importers or suppliers of building products interested in exploring whether a recognition notice issued under the Approved Product Certified Overseas pathway is right for them.
