Energy Dialogue
Energy Dialogue - Joining forces for a successful global energy transition
New Zealand has joined the countries with which the German government has an energy partnership or an energy dialogue. In total, the German government has over 20 energy partnerships and dialogues comprising a major Germany-led global network for the world leaders in energy transition, and will create multiple avenues for collaboration at an industry and government level.
To support the energy partnerships and dialogues, the German government has commissioned supporting projects for their implementation. This is initially a 36 month project with a potential 24 month extension.
Together with its partner countries, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) is pursuing the goal of transforming energy systems towards renewables in a way that is economically attractive, sustainable, and cost-efficient. The energy dialogues are also addressing private sector matters to establish market structures that support increasing shares of renewable energies, the adoption of energy efficient technologies and the market ramp-up of green hydrogen. The partnerships and dialogues form part of Germany’s international energy policy strategy, to develop understanding of the key challenges and opportunities of the global Energiewende, or energy transition.
The first event of the energy dialogue with New Zealand took place in August, when the first Business Advisory Working Group composed of German subsidiaries based in NZ, came together to discuss key challenges and opportunities, strategies, insights, and recommendations. From November onwards, we will invite key New Zealand players to participate with proposed topics ranging from the decarbonisation of industry, the green hydrogen potential, to offshore wind farms and more.
The GNZCC is working together with a number of partners to deliver the energy dialogue. These include the BMWK, the German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce , adelphi, the Renewables Academy (RENAC), and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). In Sydney, the German Secretariat for the Energy Cooperation with Australia and New Zealand has been established.
