We are delighted to be partnering with Hobson Leavy Executive Search to appoint our new Chief Executive Officer.
The German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHKs) form a global network supporting German businesses in international markets, with 150 locations across more than 90 countries. Working in close collaboration with industry associations, the German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHKs), and key government agencies for foreign trade promotion, the AHKs play a vital role in strengthening Germany’s international economic relationships. Within each host country, they serve as trusted partners to business, government and public institutions.
As the official representative of German industry in New Zealand, the German‑New Zealand Chamber of Commerce (AHK New Zealand), supports German companies operating locally and assists New Zealand organisations engaging with the German market. Based in Auckland and Wellington, the Chamber has nine employees and nearly 300 members and delivers professional consulting and tailored services through its DEinternational brand. It is recognised for its deep market expertise, customer focus and its ability to leverage the extensive global AHK network for the benefit of both German and New Zealand organisations.
The CEO will lead the Chamber through its next phase of strategic growth, shaping initiatives that enhance bilateral economic cooperation between Germany and New Zealand. As the senior representative of German industry in New Zealand, they will deepen the Chamber’s relationships across business, government and public administration, while maintaining strong collaboration with IHKs, German industry associations, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and partners involved in foreign trade promotion. They will also guide the continued development of the DEinternational service portfolio, identify new commercial opportunities and ensure the delivery of high-quality, relevant services to both markets, working closely with an active membership community.
The ideal candidate will bring strong international vision, commercial acumen and a sound understanding of political and economic environments. They will be an influential and credible leader with the ability to operate confidently at senior levels and a genuine commitment to strengthening economic ties between Germany and New Zealand. Fluency in both German and English is essential.
This is a unique opportunity to lead a highly respected bilateral organisation with global connectivity, strong purpose and significant influence across two dynamic and innovative economies.

The Cultural Programme Coordinator supports the planning and delivery of projects, programmes, and events, ensuring clear communication and high‑quality outcomes. The role requires knowledge of the German and New Zealand arts and culture sector and an interest in connecting the scenes. Key responsibilities include regular programmes and a diverse range of small and medium scale projects, coordinating residency programmes, hosting international guests, and contributing to the organisation’s cultural presence locally. Working in a small team requires collaboration, flexibility, and the ability to shift between tasks as needed.
Communicating with the world. For diversity, understanding and trust.
We connect people all over the world. As a cultural institution of the Federal Republic of Germany, we promote cultural exchange, education and societal discourse in an international context, and support the teaching and learning of the German language. Together with our partners, we focus on global opportunities and challenges, bringing different perspectives into a dialogue based on trust. We regard the ability to listen and to reflect as the key to understanding. We are bound by principles of transparency, diversity and sustainability. These principles characterise our services and our way of working.
You are aware that working in arts and culture is sometimes not a 9-5 job on weekdays but requires the ability to work flexible hours. You will bring strong organisational skills, desire in ongoing learning, experience and high interest in the arts and culture, excellent communication, resilience to work through busy periods and you enjoy engaging with different people on different occasions. You are comfortable balancing multiple tasks and priorities, have sound judgement, attention to detail and enjoy working collaboratively in a small team while also being comfortable and independent with new tasks and in new environments.
