Skills Shortages - A hard nut to crack and here to stay?

Many of our manufacturers name skills shortages as the biggest constraint on growing their businesses. Over lunch we have guest speakers from Competenz, Ara Institute of Canterbury, ChristchurchNZ and The Forklift Association to present on how their organisations can assist, and how we can all work together to solve this key issue.

Louise Apiata and Matt Vandy, both Sector Managers from Competenz, will discuss the different ways Competenz can assist our members and will speak on the three new apprenticeship programmes in mechanical engineering, fabrication and mechanical building services that they are running.

Mark Simons, Manager - Youth, Community and Workforce Development at Ara will discuss how Ara Institute of Canterbury Engineering students are trained to be work ready, meaning the last day of their course is just like their first day on the job. From Mark we will find out more about how you can offer industry experience to our students, free to you. Ara offer Mechanical Engineering Trade courses and a Diploma in Engineering and a Bachelor of Engineering Technology.

Simon Anderson, Talent, Attraction and Retention Manager at ChristchurchNZ will speak on the variety of opportunities available to our manufacturers to incorporate highly skilled graduates into their workplaces.

Andrew Stone of The Forklift Association will speak about the Supply Chain Cadetship that they are seeking to roll out to centres outside of Auckland for the first time.

There will be plenty of time for questions and answers while we enjoy lunch kindly provided by Competenz.
