How did you come to own a German butchery?

I moved to Auckland six years ago and met my wife who knew the previous owners. She grew up in Albany. Met previous owners and opportunity came up to buy the business. After meeting the butcher and his family we knew we couldn't pass up the opportunity to take over the business and make it what it is now. We have now turned it into a European Delicatessen. I have owned the business for two years now.

What is your favourite meat and non-meat item in your shop and why?

The bratwursts are my favorite, second would be the smoked ham and beef. Why, because they are the best in NZ :)

Non-meat: chilli sauerkraut. Goes perfectly with our bratwursts.

Describe your perfect weekend.

Early mornings, coffee made differently each morning, combination of homemade meals, markets and eating out for food. A hike or two and walking the dogs. Lots of reading, seeing family and friends. 

Watching an old movie Sunday night with lots of popcorn.
